Jeff Werner
Partner, Fisherman
Jeff is in the process of writing his bio.
I, the webmaster, am going to fill in a bit for him.
I don't know Jeff well. He is not in town a lot. Many days of the year he is out over the horizon somewhere on the Deanna Marie fishing.
Jeff, along with John and Dixie and Scott, had a vision years ago...a vision of a local fish market. A market where he could bring his fish and where he would know that it would be prepared properly, stored and packaged properly, and where in many cases it could be sold right into the local community to his friends and neighbors.
Jeff became a Fishermen Direct partner and helped to build the business. Unlike Scott, who spent a lot of time off his fishing boat to build the business, Jeff stayed at sea. The sea is a comfortable home for Jeff. He told me that sometimes it's hard to leave port...but that once underway it feels so good!
The world around Jeff is collapsing. Many friends of his no longer fish, the economic pressures have become too great, the schedules too "regulated", the fish fewer and fewer. However Jeff's passion for fishing and his commitment to the Fishermen Direct partnership allow him to survive in these volitile times.
I don't know how many more years Jeff will fish the Deanna Marie. If I was a betting man I would bet that he'll fish until the end of his life. We all have a purpose...a reason to be on this planet. We all have something that we can be passionate about. Jeff is there. Jeff fishes. Jeff does what he loves.
If you call Fishermen Direct and he answers the phone know that you are speaking with a special person. Understand that occasionally (and usually not on purpose) Jeff has risked his life to bring home the fish that Fishermen Direct sells. Know that when he catches a fish that he relates to it. He understands it's habits and where it came from and where it was going. He treats his catch with reverence and respect. And he quickly brings it into port...just for you.
So that's the little that I know about Jeff. Perhaps he'll take a few moments out of his life to paint his own picture.
